Suicide cases on the rise
Mahendranagar: Total of 72 people have committed suicide in the district during the lockdown.
In the duration of four months, 39 male and 33 female have committed suicide. According to police inspector Amar Bahadur Thapa, the incident of domestic violence and gender violence have drastically increased during this period. “The number of suicide cases has increased from March to July compared to months before that,” he said.
According to him, 32 people did suicide by drinking poison. Similarly, 40 people hanged themselves. “Unemployment, difficulty in sustaining livelihood has been one major challenge during the lockdown,” he said. Police data shows the suicide cases are comparatively more in the Far-Western region than other regions.
