Nine per cent children faced sexual abuse during the lockdown, says a survey
Kathmandu: Around 9 percent of children have been victim of sexual abuse during the lockdown, according to a survey.
The survey has been collectively done by World Vision and Consortium Nepal.
The survey mentions that 16 percent of children faced phone abuse, 22 percent are getting mental pressure and 16 percent are facing sexual abuse and violence. Similarly, 13 percent have faced internet abuse. As per the survey, nine percent of the children became victim of attempt to rape.
Only 29 percent of children who participated in the survey were able to participate in online classes. Only 20 percent of those students found the classes effective.
51 per cent of the schools in the survey said that they did not have even a basic facility for online classes. Likewise, 68 per cent of teachers had no idea about the management of online classes and 80 per cent of students had no resources for online classes. Similarly, 60 per cent of families don’t have capability and resource to facilitate online classes for their kids, informed Bishnu Bahadur Khatri, a researcher at Consortium Nepal.
According to Gaurav KC, program coordinator of Consortium Nepal, the survey has been done to find out the situation of children during lockdown. “The engagement of police, child rights NGO and Children clubs is comparatively better than earlier days,” said KC.
