Department of Transport Management suspends license renewal

Kathmandu: All four offices of the Department of Transportation Management (DoTM) have suspended renewal of license. They have suspended the distribution due to the overcrowding of people.

The office was not able to manage the crowd despite government’s directive to maintain physical distance among the service seekers.

The offices had been providing the service from June. “We had hired four security personnel to manage the crowd. But the crowd was unmanageable,” said Dammar Bahadur Karki, chief of the office at Ekantakuna.

According to him, with the increase in coronavirus infection, offices in Jagati, Sukedhara and Thulobharyanag have suspended their services.  “We will not resume the service until the Covid 19 situation gets better,” he said.

The office had been renewing license after the lockdown was completely lifted.

Though the office had been renewing the license, distribution was suspended.

The riders and drivers can show receipt from the office instead of license for the time being.

We have made a token system to manage the crowd, who have come for renewal. Around 250 customers are renewing their license every day, he said.
