Lebanon: Powerful blasts in Beirut, Lebanon, has reportedly took the lives of at least 70 people and left more than 3,000 wounded.
Two massive explosions trembled a port warehouse where highly explosive materials were stored for years. The disaster struck the country, which is already going through economic crisis, amid fears of coronavirus pandemic.
According to Lebanese President Michel Aoun, 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate to be used in bombs and fertilizers were stored at the warehouse for six years. |The explosives were stored without implementing any safety measures, he said.
Initially, there was a small explosion that triggered another blast which was so powerful that it damaged buildings, overturned cars and sent seismic waves across the capital. Authorities said the exact reason for the twin blasts is still unclear.
