1/4th of Nepali employees laid off during the lockdown
Kathmandu: One in four employees have lost their jobs in Nepal during the lockdown period, according to a report prepared by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB).
A survey entitled ‘COVID 19’s impact on economy’ by Nepal Rastra Bank reveals that 39 per cent of business were completely or partially opened and 61 per cent were completely closed during the four-month lockdown starting from March 24.
“The businesses laid off almost 1/4th of employees. Among the ones who have lost their jobs, more than 2/3rd are temporary contract workers,” according to the report.
In the meantime, it has also been revealed that the business organisations reduced the employees’ salary by at least 18.2 per cent. During the lockdown, the production of 96.7 businesses dropped by 73.80 per cent.
