Consumption of petrol and gas goes down drastically
Kathmandu: There has been drastic drop in consumption of petrol across the country due to the prohibitory order imposed by the local governments. Authorities in different parts of the country have banned all vehicles except those for emergency purpose or transportation of essential goods in order to control the spread of coronavirus.
According to Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), the consumption of petrol and diesel has decreased by 75 percent. The consumption had increased after the end of the four-month lockdown in late July. However, with the recent implementation of prohibitory order, only 25 percent petrol has been sold, says Binit Mani Upadhyaya, spokesperson of NOC.
Similarly, the consumption of gas has decreased by 30 percent. According to Gokul Bhandari, president of Nepal LP Gas Industry Association, consumption of cooking gas has gone down due to the closure of hotels, restaurants, hostels, private schools and industries.
