Police arrest e-commerce founders while delivering essential items

Representatives of e-commerce companies were kept in holding zones by the police in different areas of the valley today while they were delivering essential items including food.

Nikita Acharya, co-founder of UG Cakes, Alok Yonzan from Dalle Momo, Niket Agarwal from Bhojdeals were taken under control by the police allegedly for violation of prohibitory order despite the government’s announcement to allow delivery of essential items like food.

These entrepreneurs were arrested from various places including  Tinkune, Durbarmarg and Maligaun.  While some have been released, some others are still in custody.

“The police interrogated and arrested the delivery persons without any pre-notice while they were delivering essential items following all the safety guideline,” mentions a press statement issued by a forum established by various e-commerce stakeholders in Nepal.

The statement says this activity of police is against the notice issued by the District Administration Office on August 26.  According to the notice, it is allowed to deliver emergency and essential items including petroleum products, gas, milk, vegetables, sanitizers, medical equipment, medicine and other essential items.
