Kathmandu: The Insurance Board has directed insurance companies not to compensate the claimants who present reports of Covid-19 tests conducted at private laboratories.

The board has reportedly taken this decision because of the increasing number of fake reports.

Due to the surge in Covid-19 cases, the government had given permission to private labs to conduct the tests.

Raju Raman Paudel, executive director of the board, said that they have decided to suspend this process for the time being due to the increasing number of fake reports.

The government gives 50 percent grant for coronavirus insurance. The policyholders get immediate payment on their claims. Till now, 810,000 people have already purchased insurance policy for coronavirus.

As of today, 700 claimants have received compensation.
