More than 530 million litres of diesel imported through pipeline

Kathmandu: Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has imported 530 million litres of diesel through the Motihari-Amlekhhgunj petroleum pipeline within a duration of one year.

The pipeline was launched as the first trans-border petroleum pipeline in South Asia on September 10, 2019. On the occasion of one year of service, the corporation issued a press release which mentions that the pipeline is functioning smoothly.

Till now, Nepal has imported 530.41 million litres of diesel through the pipeline. According to Binit Mani Upadhayay, spokesperson of the corporation, importing oil through the pipeline has been a cost effective method.

“We save the cost of transportation and also we can ensure the quality of the diesel while importing through the pipeline,” said Upadhayaya.

He said that the corporation was able to save Rs 800.26 million in transportation cost. According to the corporation, the expansion work of the pipeline till Lothar, Chitwan is under-construction.
