Italy implements strict safety guidelines to avoid lockdown

Italy has announced new guidelines to tighten restriction because of surge in coronavirus cases.

Prime Minister of Italy Giuseppe Conte said that the country has to implement strict measures to avoid lockdown.

According to the PM, the mayors can close the public area after 9 pm for closure. Also, the government will tighten the opening hours of restaurants and limit the size of groups.

The PM said this through a televised address on Sunday evening. According to him, the country can’t afford lockdown as it would severely compromise the economy.

Another 11,705 new cases were announced on Sunday in Italy. On Saturday, the number of cases reported were 10,925.

Till now, Italy has 414,000 confirmed coronavirus cases. A total of 36,500 people have lost lives due to the pandemic.

The Italian PM said that most effective measures are basic precautions like mask, distance and hand hygiene.
