Huawei wins the award for Private Sector in National ICT Award 2021

Kathmandu | The National ICT Award 2021 was held today at Singha Durbar with a limited people maintaining all the protocols. The event was also aired live on Nepal Television and Facebook page. With the virtual presence of the Honorable Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, the National ICT Award – 2021 (Private Sector) was presented by Parbat Gurung, Honorable Minister of Communications and Information Technology, to Huawei Nepal. The award was received by CEO of Huawei Nepal, Mr. William Zhang.

Honorable Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had joined the event virtually, while Parbat Gurung, Honorable Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Hari Bashyal – Secretary, MoCIT, representatives from different organizations and other special guests had attended the event physically.

Honorable Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli praised the effort and the contribution to Nepal ICT sector of the winners of the event and congratulated them. He also gave best wishes to the winners to make the future work more effective. The winners are:

National ICT Excellence Award – 2021 – Mr. Sudhir Parajuli (President Subisu Cablenet, ISPAN)
National ICT Excellence Award 2021 (Woman) – Ms. Kusum Lama (Vice President, Prabhu Group)
National ICT Award – 2021 (Private Sector) – Huawei Nepal
National ICT Award – 2021 (Public Sector) – Office of the Auditor General

During the event, he also officially launched the Nagarik App, which is a mobile application that provides government related services in a single platform. HE also opened an account in Nepal Bank and Siddhartha bank during the event. He said “This is the evidence that you are moving fast in the context of the vision of Digital Nepal or the realization of that destination. Making great use of the opportunities provided by the extensive use, continuous development, expansion and mobility of information and communication technology to help achieve the long-term goal of a prosperous Nepal, a happy Nepali, I request all organizations, bodies, private sector, service providers, and other stakeholders of ICT for coordinated cooperation and partnership.”

Honorable minister Parbat Gurung said “We have entered a new era of ICT, and we are working to provide internet and other ICT services to all Nepalese.” He added “4G services is available in all 77 districts and the government has also already started the testing of 5G in Nepal.” He also congratulated Huawei Nepal, including other winners, for getting the award and thanked for their contribution in ICT sector.

Hari Bashyal – Secretary, MoCIT said “Digital Nepal Framework is an important transforming infrastructure for the government for developing ICT sector in Nepal. The government is working to grow the capacity of data center in Singhadubar, and the building of data centers in Khumaltar and Banke is progressing.”

National ICT Award 2021 is first of its kind for this sector organized by the government. This is the 4th consecutive years of National Information and Communications Technology Day on this day, and decided to award the best ones in the ICT sector on the same day. This award is expected to promote and encourage the development of ICT sector in Nepal, altogether making Digital Nepal a success.

For the past 21 years, Huawei has been serving Nepal’s ICT industry.
