Upaya City Cargo: 2021’s Best Startup, Rising and Expanding

The NewBiz Startup Summit and Awards organized by New Business Age Pvt Ltd saw Upaya City Cargo bagging the prestigious titles of “The best startup of the year 2021”.

The award ceremony was attended by the vice-chairperson of the National Planning Commission, Secretary of Finance, and the governor of Nepal Rastra Bank. Out of the 1700+ Startups, the innovative logistics platform was selected as the best startup by the Jury based upon multiple criteria. Along with the award, Upaya City Cargo grabbed a cash prize of Rs.100,000.Upaya City Cargo was founded in 2019 by a team of young individuals as an app-based intra-city logistics company. To fill the loopholes created by other digital services, while exploring gaps in the Nepalese market, they found that a seamless platform for cargo service was missing in Nepal.

Their findings showed that there existed hardship for both parties who demanded the delivery service and those who supplied one. Thus, the team of young minds stepped in with embers and decided to bring something new to change the ongoing hardship of the delivery services.In a short period, Upaya City Cargo is showing signs of being a household name for delivery service in Nepal. Its quick acceptance by the consumers saw it doing over 80,000+ trips of four-wheelers and two-wheelers to date. Upaya has been able to create massive employment opportunities in the market since more people are joining as rider partners for its 2-wheelers and driver partners for its 4-wheelers delivery service day by day. With a focus on bringing more female riders and driver-partners, they have been advocating and focusing on women’s empowerment as well.For the future, the company is planning to expand its market all over Nepal on a franchise-based system. After the success in Kathmandu Valley, expansion in Pokhara and Butwal-Bhairahawa, Upaya is now calling for franchisees for 10 major cities of Nepal.

This franchise model will soon be available for other cities all across Nepal.They are also currently focusing on providing end-to-end services with their segments like Upaya On Demand, Mero Upaya, Upaya Fulfilment, and Upaya Transport. The latter segments are just under the horizon and the team will be launching them soon. Upaya also focuses on bringing environment friendly logistics solutions for the first time in Nepal. Upaya will soon launch its eco-friendly temperature controlled boxes and bags for deliveries. Upaya’s recent success and its market aim could add more bricks to bring an innovative change in the startup and entrepreneurial scene in Nepal.
