Worldwide lockdown results in unwanted pregnancy among millions of women
AP: Millions of women and girls reported unwanted pregnancy during the worldwide lockdown as they did not have access to contraceptives and abortion services.
According to the World Health Organization, there was disruption in family planning and contraception services in two-thirds of 103 countries.
According to Marie Stops International, lockdown has had impact on reproductive healthcare access in 37 countries.
It is reported that many women who could not find solution to unwanted pregnancy during the lockdown are now in the second-trimester of pregnancies. The UN population has predicted that there may be seven million unintended pregnancies worldwide.
Many girls are still not getting timely care due to lockdown, supply chain disruption, travel restrictions and lack of resources in health services.
