Dhaulagiri Hospital to begin plasma therapy
Kathmandu: Dhaulagiri Hospital in Baglung has decided to start plasma therapy to treat Covid-19 patients. The hospital has sent a letter to the concerned authorities regarding its willingness to start plasma therapy. The hospital can start this method of treatment only after it gets permission from the medical council.
“We can’t predict the situation in the next few days,” said Shailendra BK Pokhrel, chief of the hospital. He added that the hospital is preparing to start plasma therapy following the success of this treatment method in TU Teaching Hospital. The hospital has also demanded a centrifuge machine to separate plasma from the blood. “We will start this process as soon as we get permission as well as equipment,” he said.
This treatment is based on injecting antibody in the body of coronavirus infected person. In this process, doctors extract blood from the body of the person who has recovered from coronavirus. Plasma is a liquid yellow part of the blood.
“The method becomes successful only when we use the blood of a person who has recovered from coronavirus,” Dr Pokharel said.
