Afghan government and Taliban on historic peace talks today

Agency: For the first time, Afghan government and Taliban are doing peace talks at Qatar.

Mike Pompeo, US secretary of the State flew to Doha for the opening ceremony. He has called the agreement ‘a historic one’.

The peace talks was supposed to start in February. However, the meeting was suspended due to disagreement between two parties on various issues.

A delegation Afghans flew to Doha on 11 September. 19 years ago, on the same day, Talibans had attacked the US.

The Taliban militants had been refusing to meet the Afghan government saying that they were powerless and were ‘puppets’ of US.

However, finally, the Taliban has agreed to do direct talks with the Afghan government and they are expecting for political reconciliation.
