US to ban WeChat and TikTok
The United States has decided to ban the download of Chinese app TikTok and WeChat from September 20 citing security issues.
However, US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said that access to the apps may be possible if certain safeguards are put into place.
The government also raised questions about Oracle’s recent deal to takeover US operations of TikTok.
According to TikTok, it does not share US user data in China. However, experts say that Chinese government gets information from companies in the US, reports AP news agency.
AP reports that this is an attempt to lessen the influence of China in the world economy. US President Donald Trump has been taking decisions that hav been impacting the relationship between China and the US. In 2018, Trump began setting tariff on China and caused other trade barriers.
