Expert stresses on including Social Studies in education course

Kathmandu: Education expert Kedar Bhakta Mathema has said that ‘Social Studies’ has to be included as a compulsory subject in higher secondary level.

Speaking at a virtual session of the Society of Education Journalists and Social Studies Teachers Society, Mathema highlighted the importance of studying about republican setup in Nepal, federalism, constitution and inclusion.

Former Vice-Chancellor of the Tribhuvan University Mathema said that Social Studies broaden their horizon. “Big companies look for social skills as well. So, the students need to learn about their society,” he said.

“The teachers should focus on practical education rather than theoretical,” Mathema said, adding, “The learning should be interactive.”

Similarly, Ganesh Prasad Bhattarai, spokesperson of the Curriculum Development Centre, said they have been working to implement this curriculum from next year. All the schools and colleges will implement this, said Bhattarai.
