Biden to nominate native American Haaland as cabinet secretary

Agency: US President-elect Joe Biden said on Thursday that he plans to nominate US representative Deb Haaland as the the first native Amercian cabinet secretary. The decision is however subject to confirmation by the Senate.

On Thursday evening, Haaland wrote on a Tweet “A voice like mine has been never been a Cabinet secretary or at the head of the Department of Interior.  “Growing up in my mother’s Pueblo household made me fierce. I’ll be fierce for all of us, our planet, and all of our protected land. I am honored and ready to serve.”

Haaland, a democratic congresswoman from New Mexico since 2019, would be the first native American cabinet secretary and one of the first native Americans ever to serve in a US cabinet if appointed to the post.
