Agency: The total population of Wuhan is 11 million. Among them, 500,000 people may have virus, according to the BBC.
Though it had been reported that the number of cases was 50,354 cases, the study says that the original number is 10 times more. BBC reports that asymptomatic cases are not being counted in China.
The study comes ahead of a visit by a team of international scientists. The scientists are coming next month to Wuhan for investigation of origin of virus.
The team is ready to visit Beijing after months of negotiation with the Chinese government about independent investigation.
The country has been accused of lack of transparency over its number of cases.
