Criticism of death sentence on former Chinese tycoon

Agency: The death penalty handed out to a former Chinese finance chief found guilty of corruption have been heavily criticized by human rights groups, according to BBC.

Lai Xiaomin was arrested in 2018. He was charged of taking 1.8 billion Yuan in bribes in over 10 year period.

“China is clearly taking a major step backwards,” said Human Rights Watch.

Human Rights Watch added that it opposes the death penalty in all circumstances. It said that this will violate the right to life and fundamental dignity that human being possess.

According to BBC, the group has called on the Chinese government to impose an immediate moratorium on its use.
