Sindhuligadhi Marks Victory Day

Sindhuli: Kamalamai Municipality is marking the Victory Day in Sindhuligadhi today. The municipality is celebrating the day in commemoration of the victory of Nepali soldiers over the British Army on Kartik 24, 1824 BS.

Mayor of the municipality Khadga Bahadur Khatry shared that the Sindhuligadhi day will be marked with fanfare despite the threat of coronavirus transmission. However, unlike in previous years, no guests have been invited this time for the celebrations.

 The municipality has granted a public holiday today to mark the historic achievement. Those interested are allowed to observe the fort today by adhering to the health and safety protocols issued by the Nepal government, mayor Khatry further said. According to the municipality sources, mayor Khatry is scheduled to hoist the national flag and Nepal Army will offer a guard of honour this time.

Sindhuligadhi is a historic fort and tourist attraction in central Nepal. 

The Sindhuli War Memorial Day is celebrated every year in Sindhuligadhi to commemorate the victory of the then Gorkhali Army against the British force led by Captain Kinloch.

The Gorkha force under the command of Bir Bhadra Upadhyay and Sardar Banshu Gurung defeated the British troop in November 1767 (Kartik 24, 1824 BS).
