International Men’s Day marked today

NepalKhoj Report 19 Nov, 2020

It is International Men’s Day today and the theme for this day on 2020 is “Better health for men and boys”. This is a crucial day for masculine well-being. Every year, this day is celebrated on November 19.

This main reason to celebrate this day is to create awareness on gender equality. Globally, men and boys have been fighting with different stereotypes every day.  Social conditioning has taught men to suppress their emotions and feelings which makes them feel discomfort in sharing their vulnerabilities.

The International Men’s Day was initiated by Thomas Oaster on February 7 on 1992. This day wasn’t celebrated globally until 1999, when Dr Jerome Teelucksingh re-initialised the day in Trinidad and Tobago. This received support in the Carribean. After that, this day was taken into the international level shortly.

The purpose of this celebration is to create awareness about men’s mental, physical and spiritual health. Various activities which portray male discrimination are also highlighted on this day. Various celebrities and social media users have been initiating and joining conversation about men’s psychological, emotional and mental health on this day.
