Indian Govt to lift ban on onions from Nepal from January 1

Kathmandu: The Indian government is lifting the ban on export of all varieties of onion from January 1, 2021.
According to Hindustan Times, a notification from the directorate general of foreign trade announced this Monday.
The notification said that all varieties of onion will be made free from 01.02.2021.
The official trade data says that Nepal exported fresh onion worth of $328 million and dried onion worth of $112 million in 2019-20.
Between April and July, the export of onions to Bangladesh rose to 157.7 percent.
Previously, the government banned export in 2019 on September 29 because of bad crop output.
The government had lifted the ban on March 15 2020 and re-imposed the ban in September.
