Nepal’s orthodox tea gets trademark
Ilam: After lots of ups and downs, Nepal’s orthodox tea is all set to go to the global market with its own trademark. The government has issued trademark of the tea produced in Nepal with the logo ‘Nepali Tea Quality from the Himalayas’.
Now, 12 tea brands will be exported with this trademark. “It was challenging to bring this trademark. Now, we can export the tea with Nepal’s own trademark,” said tea entrepreneur Uday Chapagain.
The tea industries which have followed the standard and criteria set by the government can use the trademark. A monitoring and management committee under the Tea and Coffee Board has also been formed for the process.
“The government has not done any research on Nepali tea,” said tea entrepreneur Kamal Mainali.
“We have a high quality tea but we were not able to take it to the global market. Now, this has made the process convenient.”
The board has said that gradually it will give certification to other tea companies which meet the criteria.
