Oli stresses on political commitment for biodiversity conversation
Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Oli has said that the country needs strong political will for biodiversity conversation.
Oli stressed on the need of investment in biodiversity conservation for sustainable development on the occasion of the 75th General Convention of the UN.
“Biodiversity is such an issue which requires commitment and implementation from all national and international stakeholders. We have to set target on balancing the needs of human beings and sustainable development of natural resources,” said Oli during the virtual conference.
He said that Nepalis have been learning about biodiversity conservation from their ancestors and they have been educating the youth and the new generation about protection of resources.
Prime Minister said that Nepal has achieved 11th target for biodiversity conversation. PM Oli also announced the government’s plan of increasing protected areas of the country to 30 percent by 2030.
He said that too much of pollution, climate change and animal hunting and other such activities which hamper life of fauna have been challenging the biodiversity process. During the program, he thanked António Guterres, secretary-seneral of the United Nations, for organizing the conference.
